This October, Nina and Nayan mark an extraordinary milestone 23 years of fostering children, offering love, care, and stability, and transforming countless lives along the way.
The couple began fostering when their own children were young. Nina explains, “We fostered because our children were young, and I didn’t want to go out to work. I wanted to support my children. So that’s why we became foster carers.” What began as a way to balance family life soon blossomed into a lifelong commitment to helping children in need.
Over the years, Nina and Nayan have opened their home to many children, creating a safe and nurturing environment for those facing difficult times. “It was when the first child moved on and called us ‘Mummy and Daddy’ and they still keep in touch that it really hit home,” Nayan reflects. These enduring connections highlight the lasting impact of their care.
For Nina and Nayan, each child’s journey is unique and seeing them grow and thrive has been one of the greatest rewards of fostering. “You truly make a difference to the children who come into your lives. It’s such a joy watching them grow,” Nayan adds.
Beyond personal fulfilment, the couple emphasises the wider importance of fostering which is providing love, stability, and guidance when children need it most. They encourage anyone considering fostering to take the leap: “If you’ve got something to offer, then offer it. Don’t overthink it, there’s plenty of support. Just open your heart and do it for a child that needs it,” Nina advises.
